Oliver Barnett is an English photographic artist living in Cape Town, South Africa. Barnett's artistic practice is rooted in a deep relationship with the natural world. Immersing himself in the vast wild spaces around Cape Town, Barnett is struck by the interconnectedness of everything he observes; all woven together in a geometry and rhythm of which he also is an integral part. He has developed a unique artistic expression to communicate this inseparable relationship, using a vocabulary provided entirely by Nature herself.
In his first major exhibition in the UK, Cotswolds-born Barnett presents a selection of works created over the past five years in which forests become temples and flora are haunted by ancient spirits: an animistic vision, hinting at something timeless, powerful and very old. At a time when our relationship with the Earth has become an urgent political question, Barnett's art has a poignancy that has attracted a number of high profile collectors and admirers, both within the international art world and beyond.
