Expect to find intricate vases repesenting landscape, and pieces inspired by natural forms - this inspiration often appears in abstract ways. Most of my ceramics are highly textured and designed to be appreciated by the hands as well as they eyes.
About me:
Returning to ceramics after a long break (pottery had been a passion at school but work and life got in the way!) I returned to ceramics in my forties, taking evening classes at Oxfordshire Arts in Wantage. Here I learned my craft, developing skills and experimenting with different techniques. Through my learning I discovered that throwing in a wheel was not my thing, but I loved the versatility offered through hand building in clay.
Drawing inspiration from the natural world and surroundings my work reflects the deep connection I feel with nature as well as my love for working in clay. My ceramics are highly textured, tactile objects designed to be held and experienced by more than just the eyes. Pieces are often built from many pieces of clay using a "patchwork" method, creating a scene in much the same way a paper collage maker would.
I rarely repeat a piece, though I may make some around the same theme. They involve different levels of detail; from vases representing entire landscapes to pieces in which I showcase one natural element - rushing water, the bark of a tree or the imprint of leaves.
My Artweeks exhibition is a showcase of my ever evolving work, I hope my pieces bring beauty and individuality to homes, art collections, and the lives of those who appreciate handmade ceramics.
