I am a commercial illustrator who makes ceramics, prints drawings and books for pleasure.
In my professional practice I work mostly on screens so this personal work is a chance to work with real-world media, get my hands dirty, and feel a material push back against what I want it to do.
My personal work is mostly humorous, often featuring absurd or ridiculous animals.
I am interested in anthropomorphism and exaggeration in animal and human forms, about how far a form can be pushed until it is unrecognisable and what effects these kinds of distortions can have for a viewer.
I like selling the work at arts and crafts fairs as it allows me to see people responding to my work in real time, and makes me feel like the making is part of a wider culture than that of the studio.
