The pieces I am presenting for Artweeks 2024 cover the range of my interests in figurative work and the influence of the natural world. I love the earthy tones and textures achieved with raku and smoke firing and the combinations of materials such as wood and copper with clay. There are some experimental forms and pieces designed to sit in a meditative garden. My venue will be shared with glass artist Pip Stacey of Feathered Glass who makes both abstract and functional pieces for home and garden. Her beautiful work will also be crafted into items of jewellery. Work will be displayed in the studio and around the garden. Combine your visit with a wander through the Shotover woods!
I work mainly with stoneware clay to create abstract forms and figurative pieces for home and garden. All my work is hand built rather than thrown as this gives me the freedom to develop organic shapes as I build. I love the sculptural aspect of handbuilding and size does not become an issue (except for fitting in the kiln!). My pieces are prepared by a range of techniques: glazed in an electric kiln, smoke fired, raku fired, some slip casting and bronze resin casting.
