I am a member of South Oxford Arts exhibiting at South Oxford Community Centre, Lake St, New Hinksey, Oxford. https://southoxford.org/art-at-the-centre/
Each artwork is 165 x 165mm, and framed in a white box frame 195 x 195mm. £20 each. The title of each work is as follows:
The Cinnabar; the Deaths-head Hawk Moth; the Oleander Hawk-moth; the Spurge Hawk; the Garden Tiger; Three Garden Tigers; Three Cream-spot Tigers.
I'm fascinated by the world of moths. Don't think of the ones that eat your carpet! There are ones that are surprisingly colourful with beautiful patterns and wonderful names such as the Garden Tiger. Using altered text pages from 'The Moths of the British Isles' a book originally published in 1907, the moth is cutout and placed so it looks as though it has alighted on its own description. I add soft watercolour splashes picking up on the colours of the wings. My preference is for a worn, faded aesthetic, highlighting forgotten texts and images. My other practice is using textiles, where I ‘paint’ using vintage reclaimed fabrics and thread. Inspired by the domestic, I create new and playful narratives and whimsical landscapes using a combination of applique, transfer printing, and add detail with decorative hand-embroidery. Some favourite artists: Tom Phillips, Robert Rauschenberg, Edward Hopper, Mary Cassatt, Cas Holmes. A selection of moth collage/watercolour images in box frames will be exhibited in South Oxford Community Centre. Member of South Oxford Arts.
