Born in Scotland I moved to the Cotswolds in 1994 from London with a young family. Once I had more time on my hands I joined a local adult education class in Watercolour for Beginners and it wasn’t long before I was hooked. The desire to take paints with me on holiday and record the places that I visit was, and still is, the inspiration. Painting en plein air with friends is my happy place. Whilst it is not always where my best paintings materialise I will often revisit them and use them as inspiration to paint the subject again once home.
I find the spontaneity of watercolour is exciting. It often has a mind of its own and learning how to work with those challenges gives me endless joy. Using the fluidity of the medium I aim to capture the light, mood and atmosphere in my subjects. I enjoy painting everything from seascapes and landscapes to animals and still life.
