I’m delighted to be with South Oxford Arts for Artweeks this year: The images seen there stem from observations in gardens at different times of the day and year and the paintings in particular have moved further from the source material into abstraction; reflecting what is part-remembered.
I make drawings, paintings, prints and work in mixed media, using my own images as source material . Often photographing things that catch my eye or making quick observational drawings to get to know the subject, I hope to hold onto the essence of these images by working in an open-ended way; considering which materials and techniques will get me closer to the idea.
Recent themes concern moments in time; glimpses; transient things noticed on walks in local woodland, train or car journeys; shadows noticed and drawn.
Recently I have been working with one image on different surfaces, painting drawing and printmaking, in particular trying out ways to use screen printing techniques in a painterly way; working with the sometimes unexpected and chance discoveries to resolve the prints.
I received my Foundation Diploma from West Dean College of Arts and Conservation. I am a children’s tutor at Sunningwell School of Art where I hope to encourage the same freedom to explore and enjoy art making.
