Artist information
I make drawings, paintings, prints and works in mixed media. Current themes concern moments in time; glimpses; transient things noticed on walks and journeys; shadows noticed and drawn; much of which is inspired from time spent in gardens and nature.
Photographs of things that catch my eye or quick observational drawings are often used as source material. I hope to hold onto the essence of these images as I work in an open-ended way; considering which materials and techniques will get me closer to the idea. More recently I have been working with one image; creating paintings, drawings and prints on different surfaces.
In particular, I have been trying out ways to use screenprinting techniques in a painterly way; working with the sometimes unexpected and chance discoveries to resolve the print.
I work as a children’s tutor at Sunningwell School of Art, where I hope to encourage the same freedom to explore and enjoy art making as I enjoy in my own practice.
I gained my Foundation Diploma from West Dean College of Arts and Conservation and continue to learn from art classes; including at Sunningwell School of Art; all taught by inspiring practising artists.
