For Artweeks this year I am producing functional pieces for the home which are hand thrown on the wheel. I am excited to be among lots of other artists at Peachcroft Barn in Abingdon.
I mainly work in stoneware, and keeps my glazes quite simple, I really love the flecked stoneware as the speckled effect really sings with contrast between the bare clay and glazed area. My intention is that my pieces have a tactile quality and people have the urge to pick them up and handle them.
I am part of a group of potters who use a community studio at The Old Forge in Eynsham. As the name suggests it used to be the village forge and there are old pieces of equipment still there, even some very large bellows. It is steeped in history and character, although a little chilly in the winter months!
My day job as a florist influences my ceramic designs, and I enjoy making different vessels to really show off floral arrangements, from a single stem to a full bouquet.
