Oxfordshire (UK) based Portrait Artist Polly Pincott works in a variety of media, predominantly oil paint, pencil and charcoal. Within her portraits she aims to achieve a boldness and strength of character, alongside an offering of contemplative vulnerability. In 2013 Polly completed a Fine Art degree and now creates her work alongside motherhood from her home studio, taking on private commissions and exhibiting.
Memory and the human condition are common themes within her paintings, ever the observer and self professed 'people watcher', her work now takes on a particularly meditative attitude. After spending many years working in monochrome using charcoal and pencil her recent practice is heavily driven by oil paint and its mark making, alongside an exciting exploration of colour.
"My portraits rely not on apparent narrative but a certain mood and sensitivity, at times teetering on melancholy. As a person heavily influenced by nostalglia, emotion and sentiment, I like to quietly reflect this within my work. The works often offer a notion of sitter caught in pensive reminiscence or reflection, all the while attempting to obtain some notion or sense of their individual character and spirit for the viewer to connect with."
