I am excited to be exhibiting as part of the Fired Up Potters. My work is both hand built and thrown on the wheel. I first joined Helen’s evening classes 3 years ago and have been hooked ever since. I find the studio is well and truly my happy place. The process of making pieces is a calming but also an opportunity for playfulness. As an Early Years teacher, I am an advocate for play and developing through making mistakes, even as an adult. This has been a huge part of my pottery journey too! The technique of Sgraffito also lends its self to this, transporting me back to my own school days of doodling in workbooks.
For Arts Week I am creating practical pottery for the home that is inspired by nature. I am currently exploring Sgraffito to reflect the rough and wild Oxfordshire countryside around us. My pieces for art week are simple, with a hint of colour making them soft on the eye.
