Artist information
I work in a variety of media and am interested in pushing materials to their limits and how different materials react and respond to each other. Being open to chance and intuition much of my process enables a sense of freedom and expression.
My work often tends to go through multiple stages of evolution and, particularly with the painting, leads to a journey of excavation where I can explore 'in an effort to reveal some unknown aspect of existence’ (Kundera, M).
I draw inspiration from literature and poetry - where a single line can become a catalyst for a piece. There is also an ongoing link between the music I listen to; the music I create and my artwork: subtle layers of sounds, texture, sensations, rhythm and also moments of silence and space.
I have a degree in Illustration, masters in Fine Art Drawing and a PGCE in Secondary Art. I currently teach A-level and Foundation Diploma students at a college in Oxford, ‘Beginners and Improvers’ classes in Islip, and intermittent life drawing classes at Mill Street Arts in Eynsham.
