Often working from views in front of me, or plants that I have just picked and placed into a jam jar, I try to show the atmosphere of the moment in my work. Changing light is such an elusive thing, constantly finding new colours and reflections - trying to capture this is exciting and challenging.
The plasticity of oil paint make it a pleasure to work with - colours can be mixed on the canvas and compositions can be changed.
I recently started drawing with ink on a stick, which stops the problem of constant correction and rubbing out, forcing me to be bold and brave. Adding colour with soft pastels bring these to life and keep the work loose and fresh.
I have always loved art, having studied it to degree level and then taught at secondary schools. A change of career took me away from this, but the need to be creative has drawn me back. My work is a result of many art courses to some lovely places, as well as taking time out from family life in my studio and surrounding Chilterns landscape.
