Caroline will be at the lovely St Etholwold's in Abingdon again this year, a perfect setting for the landscapes captured in her paintings.
Caroline Harben is a local artist whose primary interest is in the landscape. She seeks to capture not only its beauty, but also its essence, and this year she has branched out into more abstracted interpretation of her subject matter. Her exhibition will show some different interpretations of the same scene. These are most often local scenes which Caroline is both familiar with and is struck by.
Her love of landscape came from growing up in Southern Africa in large, open, "Big Sky" countries, and then, while living the the United States for a number of years, getting to see and appreciate different versions of what she already knew and loved. Over twenty years ago now, she moved to the United Kingdom and, through painting, learnt to look at a different type of scenery in British landscapes - a looking which continued to foster love for the open landscape.
