Local to Woodstock, I am looking forward to taking part in my first Art Weeks exhibition this year. I love feeling part of the Woodstock community through participating in different activities such as a local weekly painting group, familiar walking circuits around Blenheim and working on my small allotment, where I grow my own vegetables!
Largely self-taught, I enjoy working in a range of media to explore vibrant colour and the way colours interact. My background in Modern Languages, Art History and a long career in teaching, have all impacted on my work, and I have drawn on these influences to find my own creative route. I particularly enjoy still life projects and try to represent and celebrate simple objects by enhancing their colours and the way they relate to each other. I am particularly influenced by the work of Matisse, the Fauves and the Scottish Colourists. I have followed a number of workshops and classes at Abingdon and Witney College and Ardington School of Art, (working with Clive Eastland, pastel artist) and completed an Art Foundation during the Covid lockdown.
I am now committed to working in soft pastel or oils and work on projects whenever I can, while continuing to work in education and also run an art group for adults with learning disabilities. This is my first foray into the Art Weeks forum in Woodstock!
