Lizzie will be exhibiting alongside her mother, Susan Wheeler, in their garden studio near the Thames footpath in Lower Radley. Both printmakers will be showing a colourful and stylised range of prints, based largely on the natural world and local landscapes.
Refreshments available with space to sit in the garden.
Lizzie Wheeler B.1996
Lizzie studied Graphic Communications at Bath Spa, after an art foundation at Oxford Brookes.
Lizzie prints in a stylised and figurative way, paying close attention to form and colour. She likes how printmaking involves a process of simplification, of finding shapes and patterns in the world around her. Lizzie enjoys the element of craftsmanship in carving a plate, and the quality of the lines and marks that can be created. Colour plays a big part in Lizzies work, and she is endlessly exploring the rich colours that can be mixed from the oil-based inks with which she prints.
Inspiration for Lizzie’s work comes from the natural world, the creatures who inhabit it, and a desire to capture the moments of wonder that are experienced in wilder places.
Lizzie works as a printmaking technician at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative. Her work here has been a driving force for her own experimentation, combining different methods and endlessly playing with ways of creating texture and line.
Lizzie is a multi-award winning member of the Oxford Art Society, and was selected as Henley festivals RISE artist in 2022.
