I am very excited to be participating in Oxfordshire Artworks this year and am exhibiting my work at Kingfisher Studios. I will be open as part of a group of artists:
Jessica Parker (Venue 96)
Penelope Fulljames (Venue 93)
MJ Marshall (Venue 95)
Natalia Podpora (Venue 97)
with Meg Harris-Smith (Venue 92) just around the corner!
I’ll be showing a selection of functional and decorative stoneware ceramics, each one hand-thrown and unique. I will also have some pieces available for sale!
Hello! I’m Leigh Hicks @hicksmade, a potter and ceramicist creating hand-thrown pieces on my potter’s wheel, using stoneware clay.
I am based in Oxfordshire, though I am originally from Scotland. I have always been creative, dabbling in many different crafts in my time. I studied foundation art and Graphic Design, before entering a career in publishing. Over the years, I have enjoyed life drawing, felt making, printmaking, sewing, model-making and more. In all, I love making things; the meditative process, the creation of something pleasing.
I returned to ceramics in 2017, and I haven’t looked back. After completing an internship with a well established potter, I set up a home studio in 2020 and am enjoying being able to dedicate more time to making and creating ceramics for everyone to use and enjoy! At the start of the year, I made the move out of my home studio, and into my current workshop space at Kingfisher Studios. I’m very excited to be working in my new space, surrounding myself with like-minded creatives!
Within my work, I love to combine simple shapes and glazes to create a pleasing sense of balance. I value functionality but aim to bring artistic expression to my pieces, creating objects that are a joy to use every day!
