My chosen medium is gouache, a form of opaque water colour, which I used as a designer. My garden continues to be a great inspiration as I enjoy working from photographs of flowers and leaves I have grown. Colour with all its subtleties is particularly important to me and to look beyond the obvious and to see the shades within the shadows. I also work on commissions for people who enjoy their own gardens and want to live with paintings of their favourite blooms.
Most of my work is of a large scale so we can really explore all the detail we can find in nature if we look and see.
After spending my working life as a successful textile designer I now enjoy painting for its own sake, without the constraints of the market place. The natural world was always my favourite topic of inspiration, and now I have the freedom to be able to paint for myself, this is where I look to for subject matter.
I am particularly drawn to the close up detail, tones and textures to be found in flower heads, leaves, stones, rocks and bark that nature provides.
