The work displayed in my garage/studio is surrounded by my working tools; boxes of test tiles; a board of images on paper that appeal to me; all the oxides and clays I use and a shelf high up with pots that carry an idea that needs further exploration.
There are groups of white porcelain pots large and small, translucent and opaque, all glazed inside so that they can hold water. Other collections of small coloured pots, again glazed inside. Also a random selection of containers, different shapes and colours.
I am a ceramicist who likes the process of hand building pots and very rarely explores her ideas by drawing. I like to think with my fingers, sometimes using a robust paper that you can, glue and stable and then dampen to create the form. Or I like to start with a sheet of rolled out clay held around a former and allow the clay to have a mind of its own and create a shape. I am, for the time being, interested in creating ceramics that reflect the nature of textiles so that is always at the back of my mind as an inspiration.
