Artist information
I am an Oxfordshire based, abstract and semi-abstract landscape artist, working mainly with acrylic paints. The paintings I create are my personal reaction to the power and beauty of nature. I am particularly intrigued by the contrast of light and shadow, wonder and mystery.
Growing up, I enjoyed the rugged beauty of the Derbyshire moors and the coastline of the Lleyn peninsula in North Wales. My inspiration comes from the shifting palettes of the sky, sunlight through the trees, wide open heather clad moorlands, waves breaking onto the beach and the shining pebbles they leave behind.
Using intuition, I work with layers of coloured paint and expressive marks, which slowly evolve into organic shapes and textures as an image begins to emerge. At this point, my response to the work becomes more considered as I carefully begin to resolve the painting.
I am a fully qualified art teacher and worked as an art teacher in an Oxfordshire prison for many years.
I now run art workshops for local art groups and societies and also organise private groups for those who are interested.
Exhibition information
My acrylic paintings are vibrant and joyful and are largely based on the landscape. They are my internal response to the power and beauty of nature, light and shadow, wonder and mystery.
They have energy and movement that is invigorating and will hopefully make the viewer feel the same way!
Some evoke weather, light and water in palettes of blue and green, while others resemble fire and heat in fiery colours.
I hope you will visit the show and that my work will inspire you!!
There is a range of work on display in a variety of sizes, to meet all budgets.
