This is my first Artweeks exhibition and I’m delighted to be showing with Ruth Swaine and Kashmira Patel as part of The Jericho Studio at 18 Walton Street.
The exhibition will showcase a selection of my oil paintings and graphite sketches alongside Ruth’s amazing portraits and Kashmira’s organic ceramics.
Do come by to see us work in this stunning new studio.
Painting from direct observation, Claire’s work considers everyday things and the role they play in influencing and enhancing our human experience, especially how we use them to negotiate times of uncertainty.
Glass chemistry bottles, the remnants of past experiments clinging to their insides, cast shadow shapes across carefully considered compositions. A discarded Bunsen burner tube coils around a pile of lab notes waiting to be analysed, and an archaeologist sits in the field cataloguing unfamiliar objects used in ancient ceremonies.
Claire is interested in the process of how we create objects and how they in turn create us. Her artworks have a delicate stillness that leaves the viewer questioning their own relationship with the things with which they surround themselves.
Claire has exhibited at the Mall Galleries with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the New English Art Club. She has regular exhibitions in London and Oxfordshire where she is an active committee member of the Oxford Art Society. Her work is included in private collections in the UK and internationally.
