We're really looking forward to welcoming you into my barn studio in the beautiful village of Aston Tirrold where printmaker Deb Sutcliffe and I will be displaying our artworks for you to enjoy. The village makes a wonderful destination for art lovers with three other venues to visit where you'll find more painters, a ceramicist, a jeweller and photographer. We also have a wonderful country pub and restaurant in the heart of the village, 'Olivier at The Chequers'.
We're a little tucked away so please follow the Artweeks signs on the road up the gravel bridle path to the back garden where you'll find us open for visitors from 11am to 6pm on 18th, 19th, 25th, 26th and 27th May.
My landscapes and still lifes are colourful and impressionistic in style, predominantly painted in my favourite medium of oil. I enjoy the challenge of painting from life which helps me to work quickly and loosely with energetic brush strokes, distilling a puzzle of shapes, tones and colours in a painterly way.
I love living in this beautiful part of Oxfordshire, it's often when out walking my dog I'll find inspiration. A scene or a view will jump out at me and I can't wait to return with my easel and paints. My still lifes tend to reflect seasonal produce I find in my garden or local farm shop. I like to mix these with my favourite items from around the house bringing together contrasting textures and complimentary colours.
I'm also inspired by effects of light and the changing seasons. Nothing ever stays the same, and much of what motivates me as a painter is the permanence of the outcome. I’m happy when I have captured a beautiful fleeting moment to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
My paintings are one-off originals and will be available in a beautiful bespoke frame, hand made and finished by myself to harmonise with the colours and mood of the painting.
Also available to buy from my studio will be some watercolour sketches and printed greeting cards.
