I will be exhibiting with painter Caroline Vivian in her beautiful garden studio, a converted barn which is tucked away up a bridle path in Aston Tirrold. There are several other open studios in the village so it's a good place for a day out in this lovely rural setting if art tickles your fancy.
I am a member of the Society of Wood Engravers and make limited edition prints from wood engravings and linocuts. My subjects have largely, but not entirely, been figurative, both from life and more stylised representations from my imagination. My work is primarily an exploration of the strength and beauty of line.
My latest project has been a study of the objects in the antiquities section of the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. I have focussed on small sculptures and pots decorated with images of animals - a new subject area for me. I have produced a series of linocuts which are now being made into a letterpress book with Richard Lawrence at Hurst Street Studios. I hope to have both the book and the editioned prints available during Artweeks. There will also hopefully be a set at Richard's workshop which will be open during the city week.
In a world that is often fast and furious, I strive to create work which is calming and contemplative.
