My work is grounded in organic forms and landscape and sits between figuration and abstraction. Working in oils I use paint to provide a visual language using colour, shape, layers, edges and scale to get a sense of place that is multi-layered. My painting sometimes contains text which adds an additional layer of meaning.
I have found that as the painting becomes more abstract I have the freedom to experiment with how I handle to paint itself -to think about colours, shapes and marks and how they interact with one another.
I love colour and flowers provide this in abundance making a good subject for experimenting with colour and shapes. I will often build up my paintings with many layers so that some of these remain hidden whilst other parts are seen
More broadly my work speaks about hiddenness, and the unknown -glimpses of what has gone before and yet to come.
