I am exhibiting in my studio, alongside my daughter Francesca Rigg and the artist Rosie Leach. So a visitor can enjoy the work of three artists in one location!
I trained as a Fine Artist at Central School of Art and Design in the 1980's. Forty years later, despite many distractions, I am still a practising artist and have exhibited regularly in mixed and solo shows in Oxford, London, Singapore, Hong Kong, York and Durham. My 2D work has gradually been replaced by ceramics, though I continue to draw regularly.
Though I make domestic ware, my passion is for the more sculptural pieces which are largely inspired by the natural world. My most recent work has been influenced by a two month visit to New Zealand, where I enjoyed the incredible Pohutakawa trees that cling to the cliff faces, often with fully exposed roots. Their tenacity, against all the elements, makes me think of how we humans are now 'clinging on' in a period of tumult and increasing uncertainty.
