Artist information
Louise Regan’s journey is both touching and impressive. Having worked full time all her adult life
and painted, mainly, as a hobby she took the brave step of becoming a full time artist in 2020.
As her paintings were predominately architectural, it seemed logical that that love of buildings
would lead her to return to full time education to study stonemasonry. She was asked to
represent her college at the House of Lords for an event and was also asked to chisel a
presentation piece for the Duke of Gloucester. She had her talent recognised by having pieces
accepted for of the esteemed Company of Masons annual exhibition twice, which is a big deal.
She is now a level 3 stonemason and a respected stone carver, artist and illustrator. Her art,
which shows a deep love for the beauty of architecture, now includes everything from detailed
drawings to big stone sculptures. She’s also been commissioned to create beautiful
illustrations for books of poetry and recipes, mixing humour with lovely visuals. One of her
standout paintings is an architectural drawing of Tokyo showing how art can connect us across
different places and cultures and was commissioned as a present for one of Team GB’s
Paralympians.
And if you think that’s impressive, Louise’s skills have also been recognised by the BBC on the
programme “Make it at Market”. That’s right, our very own local talent, spotlighted on the
national stage.
Louise now runs stone carving courses, introducing this ancient craft to absolute beginners.
Her course attendees obviously enjoyed themselves because when Louise informed them that
she was now running advanced courses, they sold out in hours!
Louise’s body of work is an exploration of history, art, and the sheer endurance of stone,
chiselled into beauty by an artist who understands the legacy of her craft and how stone, ink,
paint and paper can come together celebrating the beauty that mankind can achieve.
