ARTIST BIO: Mary Blackshaw
I am an artist inspired by nature. I trained as an apprentice to my father for many years who was a Greek Orthodox Iconographer. This has inspired my love of working with paint and materials in their most natural form; making my own paints using earth pigments and egg tempera, priming canvases from wood with layers of whiting, sanding until the surface is as smooth as glass. Similar to the art of iconography, I 'write' a painting; using symbols, measurements, shapes and signs to give meaning to the images I create. If you would like to find out more about my process please do get in touch.
