I have been a jeweller all my working life, so over 45 years. There is so much to learn, which is so exciting and the longer I am a jeweller the more I enjoy it.
My path to becoming a jeweller was due to my education being very varied. Because my dad was a pilot in the RAF I changed schools every three years. At that time this meant art was the only continuum in the curriculum and luckily I was OK at it. I went to art school and later on to Sheffield to specialise in jewellery and silversmithing.
I started a self employed career in London and later came to Berkshire. I exhibited in prestigious galleries and abroad when in London and when in Berkshire, whilst still making and exhibiting, I decided to concentrate on my teaching, wanting my classes to be ones I would choose to go to.
Recently, I have cut back on my teaching to concentrate onto my designs and making skills. I have just won an award for one of my pieces that I entered in the GC&DC Awards awarded by the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths.
I want my pieces to be timeless and enjoyed forever by the owner, to be a joy to wear. I am loving translucent stones and texture at the moment still, alongside carving. Carving has always been my unique way of interpreting concepts and the chance to carve cows horn for the awards was not to be missed.
