Jane Peart
After graduating from art college I worked in a design studio in London before moving to Oxford in 1978. I took up etching after completing a printmaking course at the Oxford Printmakers Co-operative.
My ideas for prints often arise from animal and bird studies and I find using the medium of etching enables me to show the detail and texture of the skin, fur or feathers of the subject. Other inspiration comes from my immediate surroundings, small glimpses of everyday scenes or places I have visited in England or abroad. My work includes multi-plate prints where several plates are combined to make a final print. I aim to portray the characters of the animals I am drawing, or to capture the mood of a scene that has inspired me, striving to create the texture and feel of the subject.
Commissions These include books, brochures, information panels and a series of drawings for a property development company in Oxford. I was commissioned by The Oxford Radcliffe NHS Hospital Trust to make a 42-plate etching depicting hospital life – architecture, people and technology. I have also completed a commission of a series of etchings and paintings of a large house and gardens in Hampshire.
Collections Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, Thomas’ Hospital, London and The Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust.
I am a member of Oxford Printmakers and the Oxford Art Society
