Organizer of the Oxford Art Group meet up, held every Sunday at 4:30 PM at the Jam Factory
I was born and raised in Southern Czech and believe there is something to be said for southern living. It’s taught me to take pride in my home and appreciate opportunities to have a glass of wine with the neighbour. Southern Czech inspires a life worth living and the older I get, the more it inspires my art, in which I now look for capturing emotions.
My first memorable art piece was “Pope’s visit to Prague”, styled as a tadpole with a cross on his head. I was about 3 then and I like to think my art has improved since.
My interest in portraiture started at about 15, when I painted Leonardo DiCaprio from a photo in a teenage magazine. Teenage me would be surprised to hear I did not go on to marry Leonardo DiCaprio, but a Canadian man from Vancouver Island. Thanks to him I got to experience life in British Columbia and learnt to appreciate the muted colours of fireplace weather. Together with my husband and with the help of several other talented craftsmen I run an interior design and installation business called Tinquer (www.tinquer.com), where I get to use my creative side and meet people from all walks of life.
My art mirrors what I like. I am a people watcher and as such love painting people. I am more introverted then I initially come across and thus am drawn to looks in people’s eyes that suggest a deeper story. The colour schemes I choose represent the visual influences I have gained by living in Canada, UK and the Czech Republic.
Themes of my work centre around West Coast inspired nature, architecture, figure drawing and portraiture. I strive to preserve the realness of emotion shining through.
TECHNIQUES I USE
I paint in oil on canvas and watercolour on paper, although I do explore other media. Arriving at each of my paintings requires the use of multidisciplinary techniques and I thrive on being able to use experiences from my educational background in graphic design and in psychology to build up the final piece.
I am available for portrait commissions both in oil on canvas and watercolour on paper. I use Schmincke Horadam collection of paints for my watercolour artworks and Schmincke Mussini, Vasari and Old Holland oil paints for oil on canvas.
