My first love is watercolour but I also work in oil or acrylic, the choice largely dictated by the painting and subject matter. Last year I began producing some hand printed reduction linocuts. This year, inspired by workshops with Simon Sonsino at Ardington School of Crafts, I have started including some text and textual marks into some pieces, a few of which will be on show as part of my Artweeks displays.
My landscapes, seascapes, flower studies and pet portraits are usually in a traditional style but lately I have been exploring a more abstract take on the landscape. It's hard to classify these - they're not fully abstract, not fully traditional, features are recognisable but you won't be able to stand in front of the image in real life.
This year's exhibition is loosely based on a theme of ‘Passing Time’, both passing time painting and the passing of time itself. The pictures on display are images representing my experience over the past year of the different months/seasons/things I've seen. There are some traditional landscape images and flower studies and the other more 'experimental' items outlined above.
