An eclectic mix of sculpture & mixed media canvases incorporating recycled textiles. Inspired mainly by the natural world, especially the coast, but also including animal forms. Expect lots of texture in both 2D & 3D formats.
Liz is a predominately self-taught textile sculptor & mixed media artist starting December 2012 following a career change from 26 years in Engineering, prompted by a need to fit work around a young family.
Her sculptures & mixed media canvases are made from recycled textiles & found items in conjunction with Powertex fabric hardener (& related products), producing weather resistant structures for outdoor display.
‘My art is inspired by the recycled materials around me – some found, some donated, some sourced for a specific task. Textiles & texture are the common themes running through each unique piece, with designs growing organically as each theme is developed.
By looking at the world specifically through the lens of shape, form & textural properties it is possible to incorporate everyday objects & textiles into my art in unexpected ways, finding that ‘just right’ item for each individual piece.’
In May 2014, Liz became a certified tutor of Powertex Art Supplies. She works from her home studio in Upper Boddington, Northants, & runs workshops throughout Northamptonshire & Oxfordshire on selected dates or by private arrangement, as well as guest tutoring for a number of established craft schools (see www.artisticretreats.co.uk for details of upcoming workshops).
Liz exhibits her work throughout the UK. Recent exhibitions have included the South Northamptonshire Art Trail, Church Lane Gallery in Banbury, Oxon and Open Studios - Cornwall. Liz is a member of the South Northamptonshire Arts Group, Banbury Artist Cooperative & a Certified Powertex Training Academy, Tutor & Stockist. She has recently attained her Powertex Masters Cetificate (Oct 2020).
