My art collection is based in my studio in Watlington. This is the first time I have opened my doors to the public, and it has been quite an exciting challenge. I have been able to fill my walls with colour and textures which has been a joyful experience.
My work revolves around recycled textiles and other media including jewellery, beads, and clay
It could be titled “Lost, Found and Unwanted”, as all of my work has been given a new lease of life using recycled fabrics gathered from wonderful places. Most of my artwork has an interesting story to tell either where the materials came from or the picture it’s self.
The collection is full of colour bringing nature, scenes and faces to life. In producing work I follow a very organic process and let the textures and colours dictate the flow. I find this a really satisfying process and hope that you will enjoy joining me to see the results.
I have always had a passion for textiles. When my children were young I earned a living designing and making knitwear, and was quite successful - even exporting my work. My passion was reignited after exploring countries in South America. I was thrilled by the colours and textures of the local garments.
On returning to the UK I decided to learn more about textiles and their use and went on to study fashion and design at Bath College. I then had a dream - getting a narrow boat and travelling the UK’s waterways. I planned to fund myself by running workshops on the boat to show people how to reuse and recycle textiles to produce new objects. While I did get my boat and travel for a few years I was overtaken by events ( two bouts of pneumonia!!). I had to return to land and settled in Watlington.
This has given me the opportunity to experiment with new ways of working with colours and textiles using recycled fabrics. I now produce pictures and soft furnishings from fabrics and garments gathered from charity shops and any other source that I can find. Each piece is inspired by the materials that I have gathered or a story that I want to tell.
As well as producing individual works I also undertake commissions.
