I took most of my inspiration from charity shop finds, seeing something with a beautiful shape but perhaps a damaged or dated surface. Knowing that a glossy resin finish would hide damage and give it a second chance.
During the first lock down - although the charity shops were closed online auctions continued and these were another source of unloved pieces, as well as being a great source of car body paint and nail varnish which are some of the pigments I use in my upcycling. There are also loads of canvases, which I use to practice my techniques, and to see how the different pigments combine and flow together.
Auctions are also a great place to find old colored glassware, I've been using this as an inspiration for upcycling some canvases and for these pieces I plan to show both the glassware and the canvas it inspired.
I will be showing a number of upcycled pieces of furniture, stacking tables, drop leaf tables, an upcycled card table - the flat surface of a table suits resin beautifully. In the kitchen there is a large splash back which I have resined.
At the end of a pour if I have resin left over I use it to coast coasters or create book marks which I then sell at markets in Oxfordshire, these will also be on sale at the exhibition.
From 12 April I will have some space in the Yarnton Antique Centre (next to Yarnton Garden Centre). On the 17th April I will be showing at the Abingdon Craft Market. On 25th April I will be at the Wolvercoat community market,
I'm a 21-year-old Business and Management Student from Old Marston, who transforms unloved furniture bought at auctions and charity shops into statement furnishings for the home, using resin.
During the first national lockdown I started to play around with resin, putting it on canvases to create pieces of art to hang around the house. I started to wonder how I could use his degree to turn his passion into a business, so House of Truc was born.
House of Truc, Truc meaning ‘thing’ in French, started with a stacking and side table but I quickly came up with more ideas such as canvases and coasters.
I am in my placement year of my business studies degree at Aston University in Birmingham, unable to find a placement I have created this business from a hobby. I am enjoying learning about the full business lifecycle and also the ability to pursue my creative passion every single day.
