My work will be displayed in my purpose built studio which is light and airy and accessed from the garden. There are chairs on the patio and visitors are welcome to look around my cottage garden. I will run a covid save exhibition providing sanitizer . Please will all visitors wear a mask. The garden entrance is in Butts Road 100 m around the corner from my front door in Blenheim Road. There will be signage.
I will show a wide range of work both hand built and thrown on the wheel. The majority of my work is in decorated earthenware but I also have a range of stoneware with beautiful glazes. I have 3 kilns and 2 wheels and I am very happy to discuss my working methods .
I have a BA in Ceramics from Bristol, a PGCE and did further study at Saratoga University, New York State. I have combined teaching art and ceramics and making ceramics my entire career and now am able to devote all my time to working in my studio.I frequently explore new materials and techniques and my work is constantly evolving and refining. I like the slower approach of hand building giving time to consider form and also the focus that throwing on the wheel requires, so I use both methods of making. Drawing is important in the development of my decoration. Designs are carved into leather hard clay using a needle (scraffito). These lines are then emphasised with oxides and after firing are painted with underglaze and oxides. Travels in Africa, Madagascar and Central America have been rich sources of imagery which I have developed into unique designs. I have taken part in Artweeks for many years and am a member of Oxfordshire Craft Guild. I am taking part in the exhibition" Ceramics" at West Ox Arts in Bampton, 17 th July to 14th August.
