I am a painter and photographer dividing my time between Oxfordshire and mid Wales . I paint our amazingly diverse British Landscape - from the high welsh mountains in Snowdonia National Park to the coast and to the Thames wetlands of Oxfordshire and this Summer I will be spending a month painting in NW Scotland which is very exciting .If I am not painting , I am in Wales planting trees especially oak, silver birch and Scots pine to try to mitigate the damage done by our many sheep ..The origins of most paintings start with long walks in the countryside and if I find something I’m interested in, I will photograph it, mull it over a lot and return to paint . I like the immediacy and emotion of being right there in all weathers surrounded by what I love. I like to understand the ecology of my subject and the geography of the area .. Recently I have been working on a very large scale in oils which means I have to stay a bit closer to home . I love the River Thames, its backwaters and tributaries and the wetlands and would happily immerse myself in a reed bed for weeks on end .
