As a contemporary landscape painter my work aims to explore the power of stillness that exists in the connected spaces where sky and the land meet.
I grew up in Cambridge and the East Anglian Fens and I am drawn to wide, open skies and far reaching landscapes. My work continues to draw on this early relationship between land and sky.
My current collections explore my connections to the liminal spaces in the landscape to capture the sense of consolation found in the still spaces of the Chiltern Hills where I live as well as the beautiful fells and mountains of the Yorkshire Dales and wild sea scapes of the Hebrides.
My work includes semi abstracted and abstracted landscape collections where vibrant details and warm palettes highlight the cloud forms or land masses where they fold and overlap creating the connections of form and space. I work predominantly from my own photography and sketchbooks in acrylic and mixed media layers. Working in this way enables me to create a sense of immediacy of the movement of paint across a surface to capture my emotional response to a landscape.
