My stoneware pots are both useful and decorative and I think of them as canvasses for painting my richly coloured palette of glazes.
Coming from South Africa, where colours and patterns are vibrant, I'm drawn to experimenting with glaze materials and metal oxides, to widen the range of texture and colour.
I trained and worked as an industrial designer, and engineering draftswomen before I came to England to study ceramics at the Royal College of Art. While shape and funtion are important to me, each pot is unique, which keeps the excitement of production alive.
I work mostly in stoneware clay making functional pieces, fired in a gas kiln, and I also hand build larger pieces. I've been making pottery and teaching for fifty years, exhibiting around the country.
