I trained in Fine Art and continue to paint. But my practice has developed in many directions. The rich variety of techniques involved in textile art give me endless scope for developing my inspiration - which comes primarily from the natural world around me. I work a lot in my sketch book in which I draw, make colour notes and develop ideas.
I have made window blinds, textile table lamps and have developed doll making in various directions.
2003 - 2013 I worked with an east Oxford community group ‘Textiles for All’. This was set up to bring people from different textile traditions together - to share ideas and stimulate each other. Together we achieved a number of rich and exciting projects which were exhibited in Oxford - notably at the Ashmolean
But more recently my work has been focused on wall hangings incorporating many techniques. I especially enjoy ‘drawing’ with the sewing machine embroidery foot - on built up layers of fabric. The speed and concentration of work necessitated by this process contradicts its mechanical nature and results in satisfyingly spontaneous results. I also very much enjoy printmaking, especially collographs which may be incorporated into a larger textile work or stand alone.
