Hello! I’m Challoner Spokes and I’m a painter based in North Oxfordshire. I’m delighted to be taking part in Oxfordshire Artweeks this summer.

I enjoy working in oil pastels, oil paint and acrylic paint because of the thick, juicy texture of these mediums; I love the big, punchy colour that they produce!
My work is full of colour, shape and bold contrasts; it’s representational but not bound by reality. I enjoy the themes of nature, relationships, memory and horticulture and I’m interested in the line that interrupts colours to define shape and objects. Light is important but primarily to show up contrasts in colour.

My home studio is in a pretty garden and you’re welcome to take some time to relax amongst the flowers and have a chat and a cup of tea with me.
During your visit I’ll be working on new pieces, providing demonstrations and will have a selection of completed works available for you to buy and take home. And if my vegetable patch is ready you might even be able to pinch a courgette plant or two!

Next-door to me is the fabulous glass artist Pam Fyvie. She’ll be open for Artweeks too!
