We have a showcase of Jynsym Ong's works during 2023 Oxfordshire Artweeks.
Jynsym Ong is a studio potter born in London. Trained at Clay College, Stoke-On-Trent, she was subsequently awarded a Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation Scholarship to go to Japan and there undertook an apprenticeship at Mitoh Gama (Kiln) in Karatsu, Saga Prefecture for two years.
Jynsym is interested in patterns and surfaces found in nature. She attempts to replicate some of these ineffable qualities by using found materials such as wood ash, rocks and clays. She is very interested in wood-firing, a particularly unpredictable process in which pots are glazed by the ashes of the wood fed into the kiln resulting in surfaces with nuance and wonderful variety.
