"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream" C. S. Lewis.
I've had a passion for wood all my life but only decided to 'take up the tools' more recently. As a boy I spent time watching my grandfather create incredible furniture in his workshop, following his career as a Master Cabinet Maker at Gillows of Lancaster.
I found myself in an unfulfilling office job, so left to pursue other dreams just before my 50th milestone and haven't looked back.
Having enjoyed wood carving with a mallet and gouge as a hobby, I bought my first chainsaw during the initial Covid-19 lockdown and started to experiment with techniques in order to create larger, more detailed sculptures in my workshop in Howe Hill, South Oxfordshire.
I have always enjoyed the tactile attributes of wood and using local, sustainably sourced timber, find that imperfections in the wood often dictate the carving process and ultimately, the look of the finished piece.
I'm very much looking forward to exhibiting my new sculptures at Artweeks 2023 both inside and outside the venue. I, along with 11 other local artists will be exhibiting at The Tree Barn at Christmas Common - a fabulous venue, with extensive facilities for visitors and beautiful gardens, which will only serve to enhance the work exhibited there.
Please contact me if you would like any further information and I look forward to meeting you in May.
