Playing with surface texture and colour using oxides - without straying too far from the natural colours of the clay or my passion for a quiet, monotone palette.
Using a variety of stoneware clays, the gritty black being a current favourite, all work is made by hand using primitive methods such as pinching, coiling and refining. This is a very slow technique but gives character to the work and ensures that every piece is unique and intentionally not perfect.
The work is often partially or totally unglazed to expose the texture and colour of the clay and to give the work a warmth and illusion of softness while allowing it to breathe!
