Anna Lockwood

Oxfordshire contemporary artist, Anna Lockwood's painting of a goose on a black background.
Region:
Abingdon - South & Vale
Artform:
Painting

At the heart of Anna's work are subtle anthropomorphic bird portraits that provide an incisive commentary on societal norms and human behaviour. By replacing human figures with birds, she conveys a range of emotions and personalities that go beyond their natural identities.
She is drawn to species that are often marginalized or overlooked, using them to champion the cause of the underdog. Themes of loneliness, unexpected connections, and resilience are woven throughout her work.
Recently, Anna has been delving into the theme of biophilia – the deep, inherent connection humans have with the natural world. In her paintings, humans now appear alongside birds, forming a harmonious symbiosis.
