Glass

I make kiln formed glass in my garden studio in central Oxford. Using sheets of float glass (window glass) I layer it with metal leaf, foil and wire. A palette of subtle painterly colours emerges when the glass is fired in the kiln and this organic process ensures that each piece is quite unique. My work is influenced both by images from the natural world and a love of pattern and I frequently combine these two themes in my glass. I have a wonderful collection of books on the history of fabric design through the years which is a fantastic reference source for my work too.
I'll be working in my studio during Artweeks so visitors will be able to see at first hand the materials and processes I use to make my glass pieces.
Before I started working in glass I spent many years printmaking and because of the limited palette I have, much of my work has a strong resemblance to monochrome prints. More recently I've been making miniature glass landscapes , some of which are based on places that I've visited, whilst others are small simple studies of trees.
I make wall art and small freestanding pieces as well as decorative bowls.
Also exhibiting at my venue this year is Kate Hipkiss who makes wonderfully intricate paper cuts and Becky Morgans who designs and makes beautiful silver jewellery. Their details can be found on the Artweeks website.
