I am an Oxfordshire colour pencil artist, who has had a passion for drawing since I was a child. My family and I would sit around the dining table in the evenings, when I was young, creating our own different pictures, and enjoying the time we were spending together. Unfortunately, I was unable to pursue art until I was in my early 40s, this was because when I was just a teenager my Mother passed away from cancer. This meant that my sister and I had no choice but to go out to work to help support the family in our time of loss. As the years rolled by my art became further from my mind and I had a young son to raise as a single mum. It wasn't until I met my future husband, just before my 40th birthday, and he gave me the opportunity to go back to my love of drawing, this is when I was able to make art a full time job. He has supported us ever since and encouraged me ever step of the way. We now live in a lovely house where I have my own home studio so I can "go to work" and draw. The main subjects that I love to draw are from the natural world especially birds, flowers and animals. I am also fond of doing pet portraits, I find this aspect of my job to be very rewarding, seeing the look on someones face when I show them what I have produced makes me feel extremely grateful to be asked to produce such a special gift. I love studying the subject of my next piece, the close up detail that I believe is important to add to my work, which gives it a unique feel, and the control I have using colour and watercolour pencils brings me a great deal of joy. I simply love spending time creating them. The community of artists doing this sort of work is also very supportive and I love being a part of it.
