During ArtWeeks 2023, I will be primarily exhbiting at Darle and the Bear gallery in Woodstock, but I will also be participating in the large group show at St Mary Magdalene Church and will have works featured in the windows of Evri One salon, Wild Grace florists and Gleide Home Decor.
My paintings represent a grasp for happiness through chronic illness and bereavement, and many of my pieces are prompted by intrusive thoughts made visual. The chaotic, electric colours I use stem from vision problems I developed during Long Covid and lend themselves to my manic pace of output. I make paintings that feature riotous palettes and physical brushwork that often feel initially joyous but are underpinned with frantic disquiet: an exploration of my anxiety. Intentionally avoiding visual references, I instead work from memory as a means of developing an intuitive, naive language of painterly mark-making.
