Following the success of our programme for FaB Fringe Arts Bath in May 2022, for Artweeks this year COU COU presents a BIDDY programme of seated performance art by fabulous women artists over fifty. Representing aspects of being older and the matters that preoccupy and stir them, all aim to challenge stereotypes of the invisible older woman. A programme of pithy, poignant and comic works celebrates the ongoing power of female creativity and proposes powerful alternatives to derogatory descriptions of mature women, such as ‘biddy’.
WE RECLAIM BIDDY TO CELEBRATE OUR AGEING, OUR POWER AND OUR FABULOUSNESS !
Thursday 17th May 6 - 9
Magdalen Road Art Space, 74 Magdalen Road, Oxford OX4 1RE

COU COU is an artist led non profit studio and project space near Oxford UK.
We have been hosting residencies and curating exhibitions and performance art since 2010.
We invite applications from artists to exhibit, screen or perform work.
COU COU curates performance and participatory art and works with partner arts organisations to do so.
COU COU encourages dialogue between artists, curators and offers the studio as a shared critical context.
COU COU supports artists through mentoring and opportunities for professional development by facilitating residencies and collaborative projects with emerging and mid career artists in the UK and internationally. We especially welcome artists with connection to Oxford and mature women artists.
COU COU shares its activities with an art going audience and in the wider community through exhibitions, talks and events.
COU COU curator is artist Clare Carswell MA(RCA) who founded the project in 2010. Guest curators are invited to develop projects and to support selection of artists. UK performance artist Peta Lloyd co-curates the BIDDY project for older women artists.
