Artist information
I have drawn and painted since I was a child. Art has always been an essential part of my life.
I especially love to paint. Inspiration comes from the beauty and dynamism of nature: landscapes, trees and flowers. I work from photographs, taken during walks in the Oxfordshire countryside and beyond, and from my garden.
Close observation of the subject is important, coupled with an instinctive layering of paint, allowing the image to develop and resolve organically. The process and the painting take over and the outcome, although controlled, is often unexpected. This is what makes painting so exciting, never knowing exactly what will emerge on the canvas.
I paint with acrylics, often working thick and textural, with strong , vibrant colours. This is most noticeable in my large, striking, flower paintings.
I have been exhibiting since 2000, mainly as part of Oxfordshire Artweeks, but have also had gallery representation at both Battersea and Bristol Affordable Art Fairs. Participating in Artweeks is always great fun and is a lovely way to engage with the public.
