My journey as an artist started at primary school when I drew when I first drew half of a human face depicted on an advertising poster.
Since then, I have always been passionate about faces, particularly the eyes, and this has remained the main focus of my work, whether I am depicting humans or animals. I embrace the well-known phrase that the “eyes are the window to the soul”. There is no other part of the body that allows one to capture such a sense of feeling and emotion.
Initially, I taught myself how to draw using basic student grade paper and pencils.
However, my passion to depict fine detail, which has become intrinsic to my work, led me to work in colour and to experiment with subjects.
Vivid colours and textures, as well as dramatic compositions, are the distinctive features of my work, which I endeavour to achieve in all of my pieces.
In recent times, my works have been selected by the Pastel Society, the Society of Graphic Fine art and the Coloured Pencil Society UK for their Annual Exhibitions at the Mall Galleries in London. In December 2022, two of my Household Cavalry Horses won the first and second prizes in the Best International Artist category at the Equus Film and Art Festival in Sacramento CA.
I am hugely inspired by fellow artists and nature. I love how textures and colours, in combination with light, create uniquely soulful subjects and images, which can never be repeated having been captured at a fleeting moment in time.
My doors are open for you for the first two weeks including weekends, last week only by appointment. Please email or call. Please have a look at my website and social media for time table. I look forward to seeing you.
