Wilcote Art are a group of Oxfordshire artists who work in a beautiful rural setting, part of the ancient Royal Hunting Forest of Wychwood. For Artweeks, 15 artists display their artworks around the theme of Contemplation in the main exhibition room, and in individual studios. The group includes painters, sculptors, ceramicists, jewellery makers, and installation artists who work as individuals and also collaborate in creating socially-engaged works.
Simple ceramics for mindful moments ~
I handcraft simple, individual ceramics from my secluded woodland studio. Vessels are thrown on my potter’s wheel, glazed and intended to enhance the every day. Whether it is ‘hugging’ a handcrafted mug of morning coffee or enjoying supper from a beautifully glazed bowl; pieces are made to be cherished and to connect us with the little moments in life.
I throw with terracotta and stoneware. The first draws me to the natural landscapes surrounding my woodland studio whereas deep rich ocean blue glazes beautifully echo the hues of the Cornish coast, a favourite escape since childhood, and evoke a feeling of complete calm.
